A 23 year old farmer in Middlebury, he enlisted in Tioga County on 18 September 1861, and mustered into service as Corporal, Company H, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry later that month in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
