Before Antietam
A 16 year old boatman in Centre County, he gave his age as 18 and enlisted there on 16 August 1861. He mustered into service as Private, Company A, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry on 9 September in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
