Age 24, he enlisted on 2 September 1861 in Norristown, and mustered as Corporal, Company A, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry on 12 September in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in Middletown, MD the next day.
