Before Antietam

A 23 year old hospital attendant in Dauphin County, he enlisted there on 15 October 1861 and mustered as First Sergeant, Company H, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry on 18 November in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 1 January 1864, was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 15 April 1864, and was appointed First Lieutenant and Adjutant of the regiment on 15 January 1865. He mustered out with them on 27 July 1865.
