Age 21, he enlisted in Upper Merion on 31 August 1861, and mustered as Private, Company I, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry on 28 September in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
