Before Antietam
Age 23, he enlisted in Perrysville on 19 September 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company I, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry on 10 October in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in Maryland in September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 13 September 1862 with a gunshot wound and was transferred (place not given) and detailed as a hospital attendant on 15 September. He died, probably in a field hospital near Sharpsburg, on 3 March (or 28 February) 1863.
