He was wounded in action, his right arm "shot off" at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

His service from the Card File,1 which says only that he was "not accounted for" on the Company muster-out roll. His wound at Antietam from a notice in the Potter County Journal of 24 September 1862 found in Victor L. Beebe's History of Potter County, Pennsylvania (1934).
