Age 20, he enlisted in Coudersport on 16 October 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company G, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry on 29 October in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured in action, place not given, and died while a prisoner at Andersonville, GA on 12 July 1864.

References & notes

His service from the Card File,1 which says only that he was "not accounted for" on the Company muster-out roll. His wound at Antietam from a notice in the Potter County Journal of 24 September 1862 found in Victor L. Beebe's History of Potter County, Pennsylvania (1934). His gravesite is on Findagrave.
