A 20 year old farmer in Mifflin Township, known by his middle name, he enlisted on 8 August 1861 in Newville, and mustered as Private, Company H, 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry on 27 August in Washington, DC.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He mustered out with his Company on 24 August 1864.
