He was wounded by a gunshot to the abdomen in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 4 October and transferred to Baltimore on 8 October 1862. He was listed as "not accounted for" on his Company's muster-out roll.
