Before Antietam

A 20 year old varnisher in Philadelphia, he enlisted there on 4 March 1862 and mustered into service as a Private in Company E, 90th Pennsylvania Infantry on 6 March. He was promoted to Corporal and transferred to Company I, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 18 March 1864 and was captured at the Weldon Railroad, VA on 19 August. He transferred to Company K, 11th Pennsylvania Infantry on 24 November 1864 and was discharged by General Order on 11 June 1865.
