Before Antietam

Age 23, he enlisted on 27 August 1861 and mustered as Sergeant, Company A, 100th Pennsylvania Infantry on 31 August at Camp Wilkins near Pittsburgh. He was commissioned First Lieutenant on 8 or 9 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was probably wounded again, date and pace not given, resigned his commission, and was discharged for wounds on a Surgeon's Certificate of 3 September 1864.
