Age 21, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company C, 87th Ohio Infantry on 4 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was sick with typhoid fever in Maryland. He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 19 September 1862 but died there on 25 September 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
