Age 38, he enlisted on 11 July 1862 in Media and mustered as Private, Company B, 124th Pennsylvania Infantry on 9 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was listed as a deserter at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He probably enlisted again, in the 147th Pennsylvania Infantry in 1864, but was discharged in April 1864 before being assigned to a Company.
