Age 18, he enlisted on 5 August 1862 in Media and mustered as Private, Company H, 124th Pennsylvania Infantry on 9 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was listed as a deserter at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

His last name also seen as Talley Bullock, and is hyphenated in some records; his step/adoptive father was Samuel Talley and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Bullock.

He married Sarah Jane Clark (1842-1928) in 1866 and they had 10 children, most given the Bullock surname.
