He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

He was one of 3 brothers in Company F. Sergeant Richard Avant Lawrimore (b. 1839) was killed at 2nd Mansassas on 29 August 1862. Lieutenant William W. Lawrimore (b. 1829) survived the war but died relatively young at 38 in 1867.
