He enlisted in Conwayboro on 7 August 1861 as Private, Company F, First South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the left shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty but was killed in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863.

There was another Joseph Millican/Milligan in his Company, but he was killed 22 August 1862 at action at Manassas, VA.
