An unmarried brickmason, about 23 years old, he enlisted as a Private in the Troup Artillery on 1 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action- "shot through the heart" - in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His remains were "buried near a large walnut tree in Smith's field [near Sharpsburg], but have been disinterred by friends" by 1868.
