Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Charleston as 3rd Corporal, Company K, First South Carolina Infantry on 25 June 1861. He was promoted to 4th (or 5th) Sergeant on 2 February 1862 and to 3rd Sergeant after May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 19 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of his wounds before 31 December 1862.
