He enlisted in Charleston as Private, Company K, First South Carolina Infantry on 1 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He returned to duty by 31 December 1862. After July 1863 he was listed as a prisoner in the hands of the enemy to at least 31 December 1864.
