Before Sharpsburg
Age 19, from Charleston, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company H, Hampton Legion Infantry on 7 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in the wrist in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at CSA General Hospital #26 in Richmond, VA and was was back with his Company by December 1862. He was wounded again, in Lookout Valley at Wauhatchie, TN on 28 October 1863. He transferred to Company B, 7th South Carolina Cavalry on 8 August 1864 and was mortally wounded in the action at the Darbytown and New Market Roads near Richmond, VA on 7 October. He died of wounds at the Wayside Hospital in Richmond on 9 October 1864.
