Before Sharpsburg
Age 22, he mustered as Private in Company K, 19th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861 at Hillsboro, VA. He was sick in hospitals in March 1862 and returned to duty on 17 April. He was noted as being left behind without shoes on 15 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
