Age 28, he mustered as Private in Company K, 19th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861 at Hillsboro, VA.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by seven gunshots and captured at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD but died there, date not given.

His service from Jordan1 via the Historical Data Systems database. The Memorial History of the John Bowie Strange Camp, United Confederate Veterans (1920) says he was killed outright at "Boonsboro". Wound, hospital, and death details from the Patient List,2 which also has him as George Wolfe.
