Age 23, he mustered as Private in Company K, 19th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861 at Hillsboro, VA.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 20 September 1862 at Keedysville, MD and returned to duty about 15 August 1863. He was last listed on the Company Roll in August 1864.
After the War
By 1870 he was a farmer in Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle County, VA.
