Before Sharpsburg

Age 28, he mustered as First Lieutenant of Company K, 19th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861 at Hillsboro, VA. He was promoted to Captain on 27 December 1861. He was wounded at Gaines Mill, VA on 27 June 1862 and returned to his Company in August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and was killed exactly a year later at Cold Harbor, VA.
