Before Sharpsburg
From Abbeville County, he was medical student at Vanderbuilt University in Nashville, TN at the start of the war. He served with the Abbeville Minutemen, the local militia, then enlisted as 2nd Sergeant, Company C, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He was commissioned First Lieutenant and Adjutant of the regiment in May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in the face in action on Maryland Heights, MD near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862, and was killed in action 4 days later at Sharpsburg.

His Findagrave memorial suggests he's buried at Washington Confederate Cemetery in Hagerstown, MD, which is possible, but he's not listed among the identified men buried there.
