Before Sharpsburg

A 19 year old college student from Indian Hill, Abbeville District, he enlisted in Company C, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 2 July 1861. He was appointed 3rd Sergeant at the reorganization of 13 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA to 11 November, then on furlough to at least January 1863. He was promoted to 2nd Sergeant on 8 July 1863. He was detailed for service as a clerk in the "Corps Ordnance Department" about June 1864 and was there to at least January 1865.

After the War

He died young, about age 25, in 1867.
