Age 17, from Abbeville County, he enlisted as a Private in Company C, 7th South Carolina Infantry in 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the shoulder in action on Maryland Heights, MD near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in the arm, at the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864. He was back on duty with his Company by July 1864.

He married Sarah Lee Watson (1848-1933) in December 1866 and they had 9 children. Seven sons and a daughter survived him.
