Before Sharpsburg

A 17 year old overseer at Calhoun Mills, Abbeville District, he enlisted as a Private in Company C, 7th South Carolina on 15 April 1861. He was slightly wounded in the thigh at Savage Station, VA on 29 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

His service from the Rolls 1 and from his great-great-nephew Glen Swain.2

His brother William was also in Company C and survived the war.
