Before Sharpsburg

Age 21, from Kirk's Crossroads in the Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He was promoted to 3rd Corporal about January 1862 and to 5th Sergeant 13 May 1862. He was promoted again, to 4th Sergeant about August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
