Age 19, from Bowdon in Carrol County, he enlisted at Goldsboro, NC as a Private in Company B, Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion on 23 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died the next day.

The rest of the War

His widow applied for his final pay in November 1862.
