Before Sharpsburg

A 40 year old farmer in Kansas in Carroll County, GA, he enlisted on 1 March 1862 at Newnan, GA and mustered as a Private in Company B, Cobb's Legion Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the thigh and captured in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His leg was amputated and he was treated at the US 6th Army Corps field hospital in Burkittsville, MD, but died there of his wounds on 18 September and was buried nearby.

His widow Sarah Ann filed a claim for his final pay in December 1862 and again in February 1865.
