A 22 year old farmer in the York District, he enlisted as a Corporal in Company A, 12th South Carolina Infantry on 20 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

His brothers John and William were also in Company A. John died in Richmond earlier in 1862. William was discharged after a severe wound in the Wilderness, VA in 1864.
