Before Sharpsburg

In 1850 he was a mechanic in Anson, NC. Age 35, by then in the York District, SC, he enlisted as Corporal, Company A, 12th South Carolina Infantry on 20 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the leg or hip and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was probably treated at a field hospital near the battlefield, then briefly at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 15 and 16 October before being transferred for exchange. He died of his wounds in Richmond, VA on 24 (or 23) November 1862.
