He was wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was probably treated at a field hospital near the battlefield and was briefly at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 10 and 11 October 1862 before being transferred out, probably for exchange. He returned to duty, and was promoted to Sergeant, dates not given, but was killed in action at Spotsylvania Court House, VA in May 1864.
