Before Sharpsburg

From the York District, son of a successful York District planter and a Citadel graduate, he enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant and was promoted to First Lieutenant of Company H, 12th South Carolina Infantry on 20 August 1861. He was promoted to Captain in April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
