Before Sharpsburg
Age 19, from the Abbeville District, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He transferred to Lipscomb's (2nd South Carolina) Cavalry in about April 1862 but returned to the 7th Infantry on 1 September 1862
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in hospitals in Manchester and Richmond, VA to 19 December 1862, when he was furloughed. He returned to duty on 9 February 1863 but was mortally wounded in action at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863. He died of wounds on 4 October 1863.
