Before Sharpsburg
Age 18, from the Newberry District, he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He reenlisted, in Company M, on 17 March 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was mortally wounded at the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864; his leg was amputated but he died the same day.
After the War
He was originally buried "on the right of the Plank Road going out of Pulliam and Corbin's sawmill" and reinterred in the Frederickburg Confederate Cemetery about 1870.
