A 33 year old farmer at Valley Falls, Spartanburg District, he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 9 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September or at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, mortally, in the arm at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and captured there. He was sent to the Chester US Army General Hospital on 18 July but died there on 25 July 1863.
