Age 26, he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861 and was promoted to 4th Corporal on 13 May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in Chimborazo Hospital #2 in Richmond and discharged there for disability on 18 October 1862.
