Age 18, from the Barnwell District, he enrolled as Private, Company F, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 1 June 1861. He reenlisted, in Company A in April 1862 and returned to Company F in July.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty about January 1863 and was in a hospital in Farmville, VA in May and June 1864 with no further military record.
