Before Sharpsburg
A 23 year old farmer on his father's place at Pleasant Lane, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862 and was promoted to 4th Corporal on 19 September.
The rest of the War
He was on furlough in January - March 1863 and promoted to 2nd Corporal on 30 July. He was killed in action at Cold Harbor, VA on 2 June 1864.
