A 41 year old Mason in Edisto Mills, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company A, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 13 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond for the first half of November then furloughed. He was killed at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863.
