Before Sharpsburg
A 16 year old farm boy in Oaklawn, Greenville District, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 9 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a Richmond hospital to 30 October then given a 60 day furlough. He was slightly wounded at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863. He was surrendered on 26 April 1865 and paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865.
