Before Sharpsburg
A 17 year old farmer at Mount Willing, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He reenlisted in Company M on 11 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862 and was in hospitals or on furlough into March 1863. He was promoted to 2nd Corporal on 27 May 1863 but was killed in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864.
