Before Sharpsburg
A 35 year old tailor in Edgefield, he enlisted as a Private in Company H, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 1 June 1861. He reenlisted in Company A on 13 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was detailed as a nurse to help with the wounded in September 1862. He was captured an paroled at Sandy Hook, MD on 23 September.
The rest of the War
He was captured and paroled again, near Knoxvile, MD, probably while still tending wounded soldiers. In February 1864 he was under arrest, but was killed in action in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864.
