A 23 year old farmer in Shatterfield, Edgefield District, he enlisted as a Private in Company K, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Culpeper, VA by 25 September. He was ill in Jackson Hospital, Richmond, VA in April 1864 and listed as unfit for duty by June. He was detailed as a guard at Jackson Hospital from 26 October 1864 to 28 February 1865 with no further military record.
