Age 28, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 7th South Carolina Infantry 15 April 1861.

On the Campaign

He was promoted to acting First Corporal on 14 September and wounded slightly in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was formally appointed First Corporal on 19 October and promoted to 4th Sergeant on 3 July 1863, probably on the field at Gettysburg, PA. He was killed at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863.
