Before Sharpsburg

Age 22, from the Greenville District, he enlisted as Private in Company E of the Hampton Legion on 19 June 1862 but transferred to Company K, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 9 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured on 1 October, place not given, and was at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD by 13 October and sent on to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was at Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond to 10 November, then furloughed for 30 days. He was mortally wounded a Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863 and died of wounds 3 days later.
