A 21 year old farmer at Anderson Court House, he enlisted as Private in Company F, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 9 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent home on a wounded furlough and did not return to his Company.

After the War

By 1880 he was a farmer at Savannah in Anderson County, SC.

His service from the Roll,1 which has him as Julius W. McGee and says he was killed on Maryland Heights, and Swain.2 Personal details from family genealogists and the US Census of 1880. His gravesite is on Findagrave.

His brother Elias was also wounded on Maryland Heights.
